The EF510-300 series is an AC/DC electric locomotive that was introduced to replace the ED76 and EF81 series operating in Kyushu. The previous 0 and 500 series, mostly ran on DC sections, equipped with regenerative braking, but the 300 series is equipped with AC regenerative braking considering it mainly operates on AC sections.

The paint colour is based on the silver colour inherited from the EF81-300 series, with navy blue and red stripes on the bottom of the car body, while the logo is positioned on the side of the body, inheriting the nickname “ECO-POWER Red Thunder” of the previous EF510 series.
