The 227 Series 500 Sub-series is a new train developed for the Okayama and Bingo areas, and it began operation in July 2023 as a direct current train of JR West. It mainly services the Sanyo Main Line, Hakubi Line, Uno Line, and Honshi-Bisan Line. While following the design of the 227 Series 0 Sub-series active in the Hiroshima area, it features subtle differences in specifications, such as seat arrangements.
A total of 13 formations of the initially introduced two-car configurations and 25 formations of the currently expanding three-car configurations are planned for introduction.
– Renewed front shape based on the 225 Series A seat, 521 Series, and 323 Series
– Front display section equipped with exchangeable pre-printed parts, includes spare parts for replacement
– Separate parts for the fall prevention hood on the leading car, includes two types for leading and coupling

– Head and tail lights utilize white LED, while fog lights replicate orange illumination via color prism
– Head, tail lights, and front display section equipped with constant lighting circuit board with ON-OFF switch
– TN coupler (SP) equipped on the front cars control panel side
– Car number can be selected with included transfer sheet
– Equipped with flywheel power system
– New power collection system with silver wheels
– M-13 motor adopted
