The 225 series trains equipped with A-Seat cars, operated on JR Wests major linesthe JR Kyoto Line and Kobe Lineare now being released as model products. The 225 series is the latest type used for Special Rapid Services, and has undergone several minor updates since its initial production.
The 225 series (3rd batch) is a group added to the 100 series starting in 2020 (Reiwa 2), featuring standardized front-end designs across manufacturers and free space installed in all cars. The 700 series was introduced to expand the number of trains offering the paid seating service known as A-Seat, and shares the same front-end design as the 100 series. Its key features include a cross-seat interior and a body with two single-leaf doors.
The latest additions to the Special Rapid Service lineup connecting Kyoto, Osaka, and Kobe include a 4-car set featuring the newly built 225 series 700 series for A-Seat, and an 8-car set of the 3rd batch 225 series.
A starter set is also available, combining the train, Unitrack rails, and a Standard SX power packideal for those beginning their journey into model railroading.
