– This is a plastic model assembly kit that recreates the C-1 transport aircraft, deployed and operated by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, at a 1/144 scale.
About the Real Aircraft:
– The C-1 is a domestically-designed medium-sized transport aircraft for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, with deployment starting in 1973.
– Developed by the Technical Research and Development Institute of the Defense Agency and Nihon Aircraft Manufacturing, it had its first flight in November 1970 and began operation in 1973.
– It is equipped with two Pratt & Whitney JT8D turbofan engines.
– The rear door beneath the tail allows the loading of supplies and personnel into the aircraft.
– It can accommodate 45 fully-equipped paratroopers, 60 regular personnel, or 36 patients with stretchers installed using metal rods on the cargo floor.
– Vehicles or artillery can be loaded efficiently onto pallets for quick loading, and the rear door can also open and close during flight for aerial drops.
– It boasts a payload of 8 tons.
– With the combination of leading-edge slats and four-stage Fowler flaps, it exhibits high STOL (short takeoff and landing) performance, requiring approximately 600 meters of runway for takeoff.
– It continued to serve various missions within Japan.
About the Model:
– The model replicates the C-1 transport aircraft operated by the Japan Air Self-Defense Force at a 1/144 scale.
– This kit models the commemorative paint aircraft created in 2018 for the 40th anniversary of the 403rd Squadron.
– It accurately replicates the aircraft’s high-wing T-tail design with a finished length of approximately 200mm.
– The multi-material kit includes resin parts for the body, and metal and etched parts for detailed expressions of parts like the landing gear.
– By wisely using different materials, a delicate finish is achieved.
– Not only the shape but also the aircraft’s panel lines are intricately rendered to give you the unique feel of the C-1 transport aircraft.
– The special paint of the rainbow-colored engine pods and the squadron markings on the vertical tail are replicated using high-quality Cartograf decals from Italy.
– The combination of camouflage paint and special markings stands out in the model.
